EASTON – Fire Chief Justin Alexander and Police Chief Keith Boone, on behalf of the Easton Police and Fire Departments, wish to recognize the public safety dispatchers of the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional 911 District that serve their community during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
During the week of April 9-15, public safety departments celebrate and thank public safety telecommunicators for their role in supporting first responders and their communities. The week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, honors the thousands of men and women across the country who respond to emergency calls, dispatch first responders and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to residents.
The Southeastern Massachusetts Regional 911 District telecommunications professionals are specially trained and handle thousands of calls for service every year. While their work is done outside of the view of the public, they are an essential resource for first responders and the public alike and serve as the first point of contact for members of the public seeking help in an emergency.
“We would like to thank our safety telecommunicators of the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional 911 District,” said Chief Boone. “Our dispatchers are a significant part of our team as they are the first point of contact our community has during an emergency. They always keep their calm and stay level-headed while providing life-saving information for community members and relaying important information from callers to our team.”
“The work dispatchers do is critical to supporting the work of their police and fire colleagues,” Chief Alexander said. “Their responsibilities come with a significant amount of stress and high stakes, and without them none of us can be successful, so we all extend our gratitude for their efforts not only this week, but always.”
