EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander is pleased to announce that the Easton Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The grant, awarded earlier this month in the amount of $41,977, will be used by the department to purchase a Cardiac Monitor/Defibrillator. The Town of Easton will match 10% of the grant amount, bringing the total funding amount to $46,174.72. Deputy Chief Jon Carroll wrote the grant and led the application process on behalf of the department.
Assistance to Firefighters Grants are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. As of Aug. 18, FEMA has made 1,645 awards totaling over $238 million.
The federal grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
