EASTON — Police Chief Gary Sullivan and Fire Chief Kevin Partridge report that the Easton Police and Fire Departments responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon that required the services of a medical transport helicopter.
Police officers and firefighters responded at 3:50 p.m. to the intersection of Summer Street and Bay Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, rescuers found a BMW car and a pickup truck had collided at the intersection, sending the BMW crashing into a tree and the pickup truck into a utility pole, snapping the pole.
There was one person in the truck and two people in the BMW. The pickup truck driver, a 54-year-old Easton man, was not seriously injured and declined transportation to a hospital. The driver of the BMW sustained serious abdominal trauma and was taken by an ambulance to a nearby landing zone, where a medical helicopter soon arrived to transport her to a Boston hospital. The male passenger in the BMW was taken to a local hospital with a chest injury. Both BMW occupants are Boston residents in their 70s.
Public works and utility crews responded to make repairs to the utility pole.
The crash is under investigation by the Easton Police Department.
